Adobe Acrobat Sign Validation Pack FAQ

What is the difference between an "electronic signature" and a "digital signature"?

A digital signature is a type of electronic signature. A digital signature uses a certificate-based Digital ID, obtained from a third-party trust service provider after verifying the identity of the individual. A digital signature is generally recognized as being a more secure type of electronic signature because it is cryptographically bound to the signed document (making it more difficult to forge).

Per 21 CFR Part 11, either electronic or digital signatures are acceptable.

While there is some overlap between the ESIG and DSIG validation template packages, there are some differences to accommodate for the use of the cloud-based digital signature feature (which needs to be enabled through configuration) and associated constraints.
